Hello and welcome to HotFlash, HotWired's weekly newsletter of events
and information.
Pong + Pioneer = Opera?

RGB Gallery: Clear Your Cache
What do Pong and the Pioneer Spacecraft have in common? Both were
inspirations for Austrian artist Erwin Redl's Web project "you me and: A
Digital Minimal Opera in Three Acts." As our second major exhibit, RGB
gallery is pleased to present this hypnotic visual-acoustic experience.
Prepare to be mesmerized. Headphones recommended.

Synapse: Think the Web
In the new economy, if it isn't beta, it isn't new enough - Friday Paul
Boutin explains that with the accelerated rate of software development,
there are always more solutions in the pipeline than on the shelf.
People complain about having to use software that isn't ready yet, but
Paul maintains that nowadays it's the only way to get the job done. Also
this week, Katz discovers the Fortean Times - journal of the bizarre and
unexplained, and John McChesney's HotSeat embarks on an exploration of
Web journalism ethics with Phil Lemmons of PC WORLD magazine. It's all
in this week's Synapse, made possible by Intrigue.

Dream Jobs: Work the Web
Among the 10 or 20 people San Francisco start-up Spray USA is hiring, an
MBA-type, a wooer of new clients, is at the top of the list. But take
note: at Spray, the pace is fast and the sun never sets. If they need
to crank out a project in San Francisco, they'll leave it with the
sister company in Sweden overnight. Also, Thursday marks our second look
at Web advertising planner i-traffic. The young staff believe that a
well-placed ad is the remedy to sensory overload on the Web. Long, long
ago (at least in Web time) a Dream Jobs reader found a position at
i-traffic. This time, the company's hiring a creative director to take
charge of issues of image.
Dream Jobs is made possible by Dockers(R) Khakis.

Net Surf: Surf the Web
Joey Anuff joins the ranks of those ready to give Matt Drudge a good
spanking. And offers his own extravagant conspiracy theory: a better
mousetrap, set by the White House to shut down this Drudge rat.

Webmonkey: Build the Web
Monday, in Tools, Jeff Veen looks deep into the future of Web navigation
and sees browsers that will seamlessly handle site navigation outside
your browser window, leaving all that beautiful Web space free of
navigation bars and site maps. Also, the whats and whys of regular
expressions, a tool that lets you change a whole lotta text files in
just a little time. And, in Web 101 the ten top tech companies everyone
should know.

Beta Lounge: Hear the Web
SF stalwarts Toph One and DJ Monkey battle the Network Syndicate home
forces in an epic contest of funky ferocity. Tune in and listen to
Bollweevil and Perfect adjust to life after Mudfoot as he winds his way
towards fame and fortune in the city so nice they named it twice.
Coming soon: Derrick May recorded live at the Motor Lounge in Detroit
courtesy of Sigma 6. Also, Columbia Records showcase - Superlove
featuring the Hardkiss Brothers and Ken Ishii live and direct from The
Roseland Ballroom in NYC (6 September).

History credits a gringo with creating the Daiquiri, but we dare to
dispute this claim, guessing that Cubans were enjoying this cocktail
long before that Yanqui engineer set foot on the island. And allow us to
present the tradition of "El Rey de los Coteleros" - the Cocktail King,
who manned the Temple of the Daiquiri during the drink's heyday.

Forget Your Password?
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
We know, we know. You have 18 slightly different usernames and
passwords, and you just can't keep track. Don't let an eight-digit
password keep you from posting to Threads, chatting, tuning up your
browser, or changing your preferences. If you've forgotten yours, all
you have to do is reply to this message, change the subject line to read
PASSWORD (that's important), and include a one-sentence note with your
name, email address, and membername (if you remember it).
Or you can call our toll-free support services number: (888) 276 8777.
Please have your email address ready.
