Hello and welcome to HotFlash, HotWired's weekly newsletter of events
and information.

Synapse: Think the Web

Wednesday, HotSeat catches FCC chairman Reed Hundt as he heads out the
door. Host John McChesney chats with Hundt about the trials and
tribulations of heading up a radio-age commission in the digital age and
asks him about his vision to prepare the Baby Bells for big-time
competition.

And Monday in Brain Tennis, two experts on quantum mechanics, Seth Lloyd
and David Deutch, get physical about the theory of parallel universes.
Also, Synapse continues to bring you audio and video from the New Media
Minds conference. This time,'80s-rocker-turned-'90s-multimedia-visionary
Thomas Dolby lectures and shows his digital-opera-graphical, um, film
thing, called "The Gate to Mind's Eye."

Dream Jobs: Work the Web

Definition of a dream job? One where you get an all-expense-paid voyage
around the world and bring education alive for students back in the
States via the Web. The Odyssey, a new San Francisco organization, needs
three adventurous travel companions for its two-year trek. And gay.net,
a seven-month-old online community for gay men, is looking for a
marketing director to build its already 8,600-strong paid membership
base.

RGB Gallery: Clear Your Cache

We continue with our third installation, David Opp's 4YB-200. It's a
labyrinthine meditation on the computer interface. Weave your way
through Opp's maze of frames, scrolling pages, and JavaScript alerts,
and you just might find secret messages within his code and Macintosh
iconography.

Read about how technology is affecting your life in the areas of
business, politics, and culture, written from the Wired perspective. Our
latest Special Report, "The Tale of Teledesic: A Race to Wire Space,"
covers how deregulation has allowed the space and telecommunications
industries to reinvent themselves in ways that are only beginning to
spawn a new wave of services. Also, we've added a General News area,

Two parts strong, one part sweet, and one part sour: These are the
golden proportions of the classic cocktail, the Pythagorean formula of
bibulous bliss. Come see why the Sidecar represents them best. Besides,
you have at least a 10 percent chance of getting one at any non-dive bar.

Forget Your Password?
 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

We know, we know. You have 18 slightly different usernames and
passwords, and you just can't keep track. Don't let an eight-digit
password keep you from posting to Threads, chatting, tuning up your
browser, or changing your preferences. If you've forgotten yours, all
you have to do is reply to this message, change the subject line to read
PASSWORD (that's important), and include a one-sentence note with your
name, email address, and membername (if you remember it).

Or you can call our toll-free support services number: (888) 276 8777.
Please have your email address ready.
